Working with books and media are great for a little flare, but nothing beats working off the Bible itself.
Epistles/Letters are great for small group discussions because they are short and meaty. I have reviewed a handfull and archived a few of my own.

Gospels take longer to work through, but there is no better starting point for a group than discussing the life of Jesus.
