Ash Wednesday/Lent has not a been a usual tradition amongst the circles I keep, but that’s starting to turn around. Last week my church hosted our second Ash Wednesday Reflective Service. There’s not a lot of talking or singing that takes place, instead we rotate scriptures and prayers on the screen and make communion the centerpiece.
Attached to our Ash Wednesday Service we hosted an art contest. We’ve kept the theme broad, allowing local artists to submit any work they feel is reflection worthy. With 65 local artists in this year’s exhibit, and 140+ works, we’re finding that integrating visual arts into the experience creates a wide array of topics to dialog over.
