“I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn’t always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn’t always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don’t always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time. People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy.” – Ecclesiastes 9.11-12
Life never comes with guarantees. You might be the most qualified for a role, but you get passed over. You might have got an education, but somehow that doesn’t matter to the people you thought it would. You put your time in with the company, but they went with the new guy. You’ve carefully calculated your business model, your campaign, your marketing strategy, but the returns just didn’t come in.
Life would make more sense if the rewards went to those with the best skills and most diligent efforts; but that wouldn’t be life. I think we just need to learn to smile at the twists and turns of life.; put the big effort in but accept the outcome with light emotional attachment.
