Beans & Rice

We started a new routine as a family – weekly beans & rice night.  It’s bland, the kids complain, but it’s a beautiful step towards becoming a missional family.

Every beans & rice night, we set out a picture of Jeerana at our table.  She’s a six year old Burmese refugee living with her Grandmother in Thailand.  For eating once a week like her, I figure we save enough to cover a few of her basic needs, and provide a very visual lesson for the kids of what the world needs and how we can help.  For something like $38/month through Vision Trust, she gets a school, church, a few meals, and multi-vitamins.

I’d love to hear how other parents are getting their kids into the mission of Jesus.
