Song of Songs

Song of Songs is not to be allegorized as Christ’s love for the Church; it is a love poem of several romantic/sexual episodes between a man and woman.

The story is told from three voices

1. Leading voice is the woman

2. The man celebrates the woman’s beauty (describes her body three times)

3. The “Daughters of Jerusalem” (the woman’s companions)

There is much debate over whether the man is King Solomon.
