Plein Air in the Stockade

Two friends and I ventured out this past Saturday to do some Plein Air Art in the Stockade.  I set-up with a great view of Arthur’s Food Market (oldest active market in America) and Lawrence the Indian (Historic Monument).  Peggy got a great start on an oil painting from Front Street, Daniel stayed on the move with several small watercolor works of doorways and lanterns.  Although rain cut the fun short, at least we were able to enjoy a great sandwich at Arthur’s.

I need some help!

I need some help with completing this artwork.  It’s a large (4’x8′) mixed media painting for my church’s foyer.  I’ve glued garbage and threw paint all over it, intending it to be the background for a work titled “The Roots of Life Change.”  In the foreground I intended to make a network of roots out of written Bible verses, signifying the gospel cutting through the junk of life.

Selected Close-Up

That being said, I’ve come to like it as is and am apprehensive of making it cheesy by writing the words.  A lot of Christian art gets sloppy when trying to be symbolic.  I’m on the fence though, knowing it would carry more meaning if I finished it as planned.
